Pretty Things

{inner necklace: vintage, family heirloom / outer necklace: J.Crew}
I've been really into black statement-making jewelry lately-- it's so chic for nighttime (or day, when done right!). The necklace on the inside was a gift from my parents for Christmas- it was my Dad's grandmothers, and was passed down to my mom, and now me! It's made of beautiful jet stones. The outside necklace is one of my current favorite pieces from J.Crew.

I'm so excited about this recent purchase (my first from JC Collection). For some odd reason, these pumps were on sale in-store for a very reasonable price, so even though they are completely impractical for my next five months in Amsterdam, I couldn't resist pulling the trigger on them. They are completely unlike anything I have, which makes them irresistible. Even worn with jeans, I instantly feel like Betty Draper when I put them on.

I was in New York City all day today. It was freezing, but beautiful nonetheless. I was in the city for a really, really important interview (cross your fingers for me!). Now I'm headed to Washington D.C. for a few days for some quality time with a close friend.

Jason Wu x Target

{My picks for the upcoming Jason Wu for Target collection. Full collection can be seen here.}

This is old news by now, but I just had to reiterate: the Jason Wu for Target collection is, in my opinion, the best collaboration yet. These styles are so fresh and on point for Spring- ladylike yet still playful. This is the first time I've wanted just about every single item in a designer Target line! Too bad I'll be abroad by the time the collection drops on February 5.
What are your favorite looks from the collection?

California Winter

{Elizabeth and James top, Citizens of Humanity pants c/o Invista-Lycra, Jessica Simpson wedges, Flea Market Girl earrings}
When Invista-Lycra sent me these Citizens of Humanity pants, I was thrilled. I have a special place in my heart for anything high waisted, and if you followed my blog this past summer then you remember my much loved '70s-inspired jeans. These tawny twill pants are a dressier update on that summery style, and are surprisingly versatile--I can wear them with whimsical tops like this E&J beauty, or pair them with a crisp button down and cardigan for a more polished look. And the best part about them? While high-waisted pants often pinch at the tummy and legs, the fabric of these jeans makes them incredibly comfortable.

I love the way the bell-sleeve mirrors the flared pants.

Please, please gorgeous California weather- stay this way forever! Or at least until I leave for Amsterdam?

Loving Loafers

{Madewell loafers}
My favorite new trend this season has to be loafers. I am obsessed with the tomboy flair they lend to any outfit. Perfect with cuffed jeans or a girly dress, I'm convinced loafers are the perfect flats. My mom and I love them so much that we have acquired two matching pair- seen here.

Here's a roundup of some of my favorite loafers around.

{patent leather} J. Crew Biella Loafer, $228
{classic} Tory Burch Penny Loafer, $175 (on sale)
{quirky} Madewell Handbook Loafer, $130 (on sale)

P.S. I can hardly believe it, but this post is my 200th! Thanks for reading everyone.

Easy Errands

{Nordstrom BP shirt, J. Crew corduroys (on sale!), Madewell scarf (on sale!), loafers, & purse, Urban Outfitters glasses, David Yurman ring, Flea Market Girl wishbone necklace, bracelets- Flea Market Girl, Madewell, F21, gifted}
In preparation for going abroad, I've spent the last couple of days hopping around Los Angeles doing various errands. Since the weather is so unbelievably gorgeous, I haven't needed a sweater--just this cozy scarf.

The past few years I've had an aversion to corduroys-- I'm not sure why, but they seemed outdated to me. This is the first pair of cords I've found that I feel are truly updated. The high rise and skinny leg create a very modern fit to balance out the retro vibe of the fabric.

Staying in the Spirit

{Madewell shirt and boots, Urban Outfitters sweater, J Brand jeans, J. Crew necklace, Invicta watch, wrap bracelet via Flea Market Girl at the Melrose Trading post, Claire Vivier clutch}
I realize I'm a few days late, but I couldn't help but pair this olive green shirt with my favorite red pants for a look that subtly screams Christmas.

I realized while taking these photos that my outfit has even more Christmas spirit because it's made up of three gifts. The silk shirt is from my mom, the necklace from my close friend (and little!), and the clutch is from my boyfriend. (Love you guys!)

I picked up this suede wrap bracelet at the flea market and gave a matching one to my little sister for Christmas. It's such a fun, easy little pop of color.

I am positively enamored with this clutch. I had pinned a photo of it after a large shipment of Claire Vivier bags had come through the Vogue offices this summer; I immediately fell in love with the designer's sumptuous, vibrant bags. Turns out my boyfriend was a secret follower of my Pinterest, and snapped this red one up for my for Christmas present.

Happy Weekend!

Cozy Details

One of my favorite parts about winter dressing is the way it allows you to have fun mixing and matching different items in your closet for maximum layering (and style) potential.

{J. Crew coat (on sale!) and half-zip sweater (on sale!), Gap flannel shirt, Theory pants (on sale!), Sam Edleman Boots, locket via Flea Market Girl at the Melrose Trading post, gifted ring, Urban Outfitters glasses}

I am obsessed with the half-gloves sewn into this super-warm coat

With the weather back in LA mimicking summer with balmy 80 degree temperatures, I feel rather lucky to be enjoying true winter here in Utah.

Simple Vintage

{Vintage dress, Madewell tights and boots, J. Crew necklace, Michael Kors watch}
I wore this outfit to a casual New Years day party.

I've been wanting to wear this dress on the blog for so long! I picked it up last year at a little shop in Los Angeles, and absolutely adore its simple silhouette, reminiscent of a Halston creation.

Winter Layers

{Madewell shirt and jeans, J. Crew vest (similar) and sweater (on sale!), Urban Outfitters boots and glasses, Coach purse, Michael Kors watch, F21 and gifted bangles}
I'm in Salt Lake City right now visiting my boyfriend, and I can't help but notice that it somehow feels right to be entering the new year in frigid temperatures like I'll be experiencing abroad in Amsterdam for the next four and a half months. This is basically a practice round in dressing for the cold.

Despite the fact that the temperature is hovering in the mid-30's, there is absolutely no snow here! That's going to make skiing tomorrow quite the adventure.

I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of the new year!
