A Year in Outfits

Since starting my blog, I've watched my sense of personal style grow and evolve, and it's been a blast. Here are some of my favorite looks from 2011.

One of my new years resolutions is to get back on track with this little blog of mine! The second half of the semester had me a little crazed, but I officially promise to get back on the blogging train in the new year.

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you enjoy the last night of 2011.

Warm Neutrals

{J. Crew sweater, Uniqlo shirt, J Brand jeans, Madewell Boots, Michael Kors watch}
This post is embarrassingly overdue! Finals and moving out of school in preparation for my semester abroad got the best of me.

I wore this outfit to one of my last days of work on a chilly day-- I think it strikes a nice balance between cozy and professional.

I have been living in this sweater all season. It is so comfy, and I love its warm camel color.

Now that I'm back at home, I have some MAJOR Christmas shopping to do. How's your progress?

P.S. I'm getting a major haircut tomorrow- the suspense is killing me!

Classic Dots

{J. Crew blazer, shirt, and pants, Madewell shoes, Invicta watch}
Though I haven't yet worn this shirt on my blog, it's been a big staple of mine lately. There's something so easy and versatile about a silk t-shirt. I love the way the polka-dots keep this outfit from taking itself too seriously.

This navy blazer is one of my most-worn investment pieces. What are those pieces in your closet that you always fall back on?

Tweeds & Knits

{J. Brand jeans, vintage blazer, Urban Outfitters sweater, J. Crew shirt, Madewell boots, Invicta watch}
I have been lusting for red jeans for many months. After finally taking the plunge and buying these over the weekend, it has become clear that they, along with these boots, will be my staples all winter long.

This blazer is one of my favorite buys ever from Shareen's. I love how much character it has--that's the beauty in vintage pieces.

Adore the quirky effect of mixing textures and colors.

I have to say, red jeans may be the best item to buy if you need a wardrobe pick-me-up.

Can you believe it's already almost Thanksgiving? This fall has blown by! What are your holiday plans?

Gray Day

{Rebecca Taylor dress (old), J. Crew blazer and tights, Urban Outfitters scarf, Madewell boots, Coach purse, Michael Kors watch}
On Friday, I finally ventured over to the Beauty Culture exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography. I had been wanting to go since the exhibit debuted back in May! We took these photos in the park next to the space- it's not every day you're lucky enough to find a green area in the middle of LA.

After meditating on these boots for about a month, I finally pulled the trigger and bought them last week. I haven't taken them off since. I adore their rich, mahogany color and fun laces up the front.

This is my new favorite bag. I picked it up when I was in New York last month. I am absolutely in love with the entire Coach Classics collection, but I decided on this particular one because it's such a perfect size and shape for pretty much every occasion.

I'm kind of enjoying the gray weather here, it's finally starting to become a bit wintry!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

A Little Wild

{J. Crew blazer, American Apparel v-neck, Daughters of the Liberation via Anthropologie pants, shoes c/o Wanted, Michael Kors watch, vintage neckalce}
I've been wanting to jump on the leopard trend for a while, so I was thrilled when I was sent these adorable slippers.

The next leopard item on my wishlist? A skinny belt.

Happy Monday! How was your weekend?

Color Palette

{Urban Outfitters sweater, Madewell silk button-down and necklace, J. Crew pants and shoes, Michael Kors watch}
As I was putting together this outfit, I got just a tad excited about the fact that my shoes and pants are almost exactly the same color. Then I thought about my favorite statement necklace, also in the same color family, and I just couldn't resist putting that on as well. I needed to balance the matchy-ness of those three pieces, so I went with a neutral shirt and sweater.

As much as I love these sandals, I have to admit, I'm slightly annoyed that it is now November and it's still too hot to wear boots here in LA. Fall, come a little faster, will you?

Casual Friday

{Madewell jeans, sweater, and loafers, Uniqlo shirt, Michael Kors watch}
Wore this outfit to campus on Friday.

I'm currently having a major obsession with button-downs. I absolutely adore how chic they are, and how surprisingly versatile they can be. I've been experimenting with wearing them oversized and untucked, as well as with sweater combinations like this. The button-down is definitely my new staple for fall.

Meet my new loafers. I bought them in New York last weekend. To say I am in love is an understatement. If I could, I would wear them every single day... with a button down. I think it's safe to say my favorite look this fall is a little bit androgynous.

How was your weekend?

Role Model

As I mentioned in my last post, I was lucky enough to attend a J. Crew event last week in celebration of the Fall 2011 collection. Here's one of my favorite looks from this season. I would be in heaven if I could take that coat abroad with me.

I had the opportunity to meet Tom Mora, head of women's design for J. Crew. He was so nice in person, and I completely geeked out, chatting with him about the evolution of the brand, as well as my adoration for Jenna Lyons.

I've been in New York for the past few days, and have had such a lovely time. It's been so nice to get out of L.A. and enjoy the almost-chilly weather (and of course the amazing shopping) on the east coast. Can't wait to debut a few new purchases here! Hope you're all having delightful weekends.

Shamelessly J. Crew

{J. Crew jacket (on sale!), shirt, necklace, and shoes, J. Crew Factory skirt, Trina Turk purse, Urban Outfitters watch, David Yurman ring, gifted earrings}
Last week, I attended a J. Crew event celebrating the brand's Fall 2011 collection. I was thrilled to have an opportunity to wear head-to-toe J. Crew with no shame whatsoever.

At the event, I had the chance to meet Tom Mora, head of women's design for J. Crew. I was starstruck, to say the least.

How was your weekend? I had one of my best friends in town, and we did some major shopping damage--my favorite buys were a fair isle sweater and a new pair of boots (so ready for fall!).

Rainy Day

{J. Crew jacket, sweater, and shirt, Madewell jeans, Sam Edleman boots, Target umbrella}
When any amount of rain hits Los Angeles, widespread panic ensues. Instead of avoiding the downpour,  I used the opportunity to break out my first official fall outfit.

So excited for fall layering.
Sorry for the poor photo quality! It's quite a doozy taking pictures in the rain.

Formulaic

{J. Crew shirt and shoes (on sale!), Adam Lippes skirt, target sunglasses gifted pearl earrings and necklace, gifted ring and bracelet, Michael Kors watch}
This skirt is one of my closet staples. I feel positively ladylike in it, and it's perfect for dressy yet conservative occassions. I wore this outfit for an in-class presentation (public speaking- my greatest fear!) that required business casual dress.

I've duplicated this look several times here on the blog, mostly because it's so easy to recreate. When I'm in a pinch and need a professional yet pretty outfit, my formula is pretty simple:
button down + high-waisted skirt + heels + necklace

These shoes have quickly become a go-to of mine. I love the detailing, and they are so versatile. I highly recommend them (and they're on sale!).

In other news, my first column for CBS Los Angeles is live. I picked my favorite vintage and thrift spots in Los Angeles- check it out here!

Snapshots

Hi lovely readers! I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted. Thought I'd show you all what I've been up to you to explain why I've been a bit absent from the blogosphere...
A couple weeks ago I went home to Texas for Austin City Limits music festival- it was my seventh year attending! The trip to Austin was such a nice break from the hustle Los Angeles.

The weather was a bit crazy--one minute it was sweltering, the next it was raining. Our solution? A towel-tent.

Of course, I got to revel in some Texas pride.

I'll definitely be back next year.

On Friday I assisted at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party. It was such a fun night! The event was sponsored by Net-A-Porter and Coach, and the fashion show, which combined looks from the two brands, was spectacular.
Here with my lovely friend Celine, who helped me get my internship at Vogue

The weather is finally starting to cool down, and I'm having major urges to go all-out with my fall outfits. I'll be sure to share them here!
